Why Creativity?

"In creative classrooms, I have found the atmosphere to be energetic, the attitude toward school to be more positive, and the learning to be deeper. Csíkszentmihályi (1996) says that engagement in creative endeavors allows individuals to experience a 'profound sense of being part of an entity greater than ourselves' and in doing so, 'leaves an outcome that adds to the richness and complexity of the future' (Csíkszentmihályi, 1996, p. 2). Torrance (1962) connected creativity with fully functioning, mentally healthy learners who have the skills not only to navigate the stormy seas of life, but also to provide answers to society’s woes and challenges. Creative thinking is necessary for problem solving. Creative experiences can give meaning to what happens in the classroom. Creative expression can add dimension to the creators’ personhood" (Champa, 2016,  p. 4).

So after reading the above, the real question is:

  Why not creativity?

While exploring this website, I hope you will find interesting ideas, perceptions, and classroom curriculum/strategies around the topic of creativity.

  • The first tab (underconstruction at the moment) takes you to the results of the study I conducted for my doctoral dissertation. Here you will discover what eight young creators have to say about their experiences with creativity.

  • The subsequent tabs take you to curriculum that you can use in your classroom or with your own family and friends.

  • This website will be continually renewed and revised as I discover more insights, more strategies, more data that enhances my understanding of the varied experiences of creativity.
